Recreation Services Manager (MWR)

About the role

The Recreation Services Manager will lead morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) programs for the U.S. Navy community on Diego Garcia. This position ensures safe, engaging, and high‑quality recreational activities for service members and their families while maintaining compliance with Navy and safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage resale operations and all MWR programs to meet the needs of the installation’s military community.
• Ensure compliance with CNICINST 1710.3 hazardous‑materials handling and maintain current CPR certification for relevant staff.
• Train employees on the Navy’s MWR Star Service, Achieving Extraordinary Customer Relations (AECR) standards.
• Provide on‑call availability during regular hours and guarantee a designated alternate within one hour for emergencies.
• Serve as a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor and deliver required training.
• Officiate and oversee sports leagues (soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, flag football) ensuring fairness and quality.
• Organize and promote diverse recreational events for personnel and families to boost participation.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance morale and welfare initiatives.
• Monitor facility usage, document compliance, and maintain operational effectiveness.
• Oversee budgets, financial records, and resource allocation with fiscal responsibility.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of five years of experience managing recreation or MWR programs, preferably in a military or government setting.
• Demonstrated ability to lead staff, coordinate events, and maintain safety standards.
• Strong customer‑service orientation and ability to work under emergency conditions.

Required skills

• Current CPR certification.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor certification.
