Marine Welder / Shipfitter (US Navy Program)

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Welder – Shipfitter to support a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves welding, fabrication, installation, and structural repair of marine vessels and associated shipboard systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform welding, fabrication, and structural repair on marine vessels, equipment, and shipboard systems.
• Weld a variety of metals and alloys, including high‑tensile steel, copper‑nickel alloys, aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel.
• Repair, fabricate, and install structural components such as bulkheads, decks, frames, supports, brackets, and hull sections.
• Execute shipfitting tasks: measuring, cutting, fitting, aligning, and assembling metal components.
• Fabricate and install piping systems for high‑pressure steam, compressed air, fuel, hydraulic, ballast, and other shipboard systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, welding symbols, schematics, and engineering specifications.
• Operate welding equipment (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW) and oxy‑fuel cutting tools, as well as fabrication equipment like grinders, plasma cutters, and drill presses.
• Inspect welds and assemblies for compliance with military, commercial, and industry standards.

Required profile

• Valid welding certifications and ability to follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications.
• Experience reading and working from technical drawings and schematics.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations, confined‑space, hot‑work, and hazardous‑material procedures.
• Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
