About the role
The Chief Resident Engineer will lead a site‑based team responsible for supervising civil, electrical and mechanical EPC contractors. This senior position ensures safety, environmental compliance and effective coordination between the client and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the on‑site team supervising civil, electrical and mechanical EPC contractors.
- Act as the primary liaison with the client and contractors, ensuring clear communication and coordination.
- Provide safety and environmental compliance leadership to maintain project focus on these critical areas.
- Implement robust site supervision and contract management processes, including staff rostering and contractor compliance monitoring.
- Oversee routine progress claims processing and proactively address potential variation or extension of time claims.
- Manage submittals, requests for information and specialist input from head office in a timely manner.
- Maintain and store site documentation, and ensure proper handling of rectification plans when work falls behind schedule or exceeds budget.
- Lead the commissioning process, issue taking‑over certificates, and compile final project documentation such as construction records, as‑built drawings and O&M manuals.
- Ensure the quality assurance system is active, and that all legal, occupational health, safety and environmental regulations are met.
- Update risk management plans, respond to emerging risks, and work with stakeholders to mitigate impacts.
- Conduct six‑monthly performance appraisals for direct reports and approve internal administration documents.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience leading on‑site engineering teams and supervising EPC contractors.
- Strong ability to coordinate with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders.
- Proven track record in safety, environmental and quality compliance management.
- Experience managing contract administration, progress claims and variation claims.
- Capability to handle documentation, commissioning and hand‑over processes.
- Solid understanding of risk management and legal compliance in construction projects.
