Security Officer – Parliamentary Precinct

About the role

The Security Officer ensures the safety and protection of Members of the National Assembly, parliamentary staff, visitors, dignitaries and the precinct. Working on‑site, you will maintain a secure environment through proactive patrols, access control, emergency response and enforcement of security protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a visible security presence throughout parliamentary buildings and surrounding areas.
• Patrol assigned zones, monitor entrances, exits, corridors, offices, committee rooms and the Chamber.
• Respond promptly to incidents, alarms, emergencies and requests for assistance.
• Verify identities, operate access‑control and visitor‑management systems, and screen persons, bags and vehicles.
• Monitor CCTV and other electronic security systems, reporting suspicious behaviour.
• Provide first‑aid, assist emergency services and participate in drills.
• Prepare accurate incident reports and maintain logs.
• Support ceremonial functions and protect parliamentary assets.

Required profile

• Secondary school certificate or equivalent.
• Certificate or higher qualification in security management, law enforcement or a related field.
• First‑aid certification (desirable).
• Training in emergency response, conflict management or defensive tactics is an asset.
