Bosun - Luxury Expedition Vessel

About the role

Aqua Expeditions is hiring a Bosun for its new operation Aqua Lares. The Bosun is the senior deck rating and team leader of the deck department, reporting directly to the Chief Officer / First Officer. The role oversees daily exterior operations, deck maintenance and vessel safety, leading the deckhand team to maintain the highest luxury standards of presentation, guest service and seamanship.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the deck team in daily wash-downs, chamois drying, teak care, brightwork, painting, varnishing and stainless steel polishing
• Organize exterior work schedules, maintenance plans and deck inventories, and report repair needs to the Chief Officer / First Officer
• Oversee waste management and garbage disposal in compliance with MARPOL and company environmental standards
• Stand bridge or deck watches, supervise deck watchkeeping and lead by example in fire, man overboard and abandon ship drills
• Take charge of mooring, anchoring and tender operations, including line handling, fender deployment and anchor work
• Oversee tenders, skiffs and water sports equipment (kayaks, paddleboards, jet skis), and act as tender captain on guest transfers
• Coordinate guest transfers, luggage handling and excursion support

Required profile

• Valid STCW Basic Safety Training (STCW 95/2010) and ENG1 or equivalent medical certificate
• Preferred: STCW Navigational Watch Rating (II/4) or Able Seafarer Deck (II/5)
• Preferred: Commercial Powerboat Level 2, RYA Yachtmaster or local equivalent tender license
• Preferred: STCW Designated Security Duties (A-VI/6-2)
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of deck experience, including 1 to 2 years in a leadership role (Bosun or Lead Deckhand), ideally on luxury passenger vessels, expedition ships or superyachts
• Fluent English, written and spoken

Required skills

• Leadership, task assignment and training of junior crew
• Seamanship: line handling, wire rope work, knots, splicing, anchoring and mooring
• Exterior detailing: teak maintenance, paint systems, varnishing, gelcoat repair and polishing
• Tender handling and boat driving in varied sea conditions
