Emergency Vehicle Technician

About the role

The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire and emergency response vehicles, including ARFF trucks, ambulances, and associated heavy equipment. The role ensures that all apparatus are safe, reliable, and ready for rapid deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of fire vehicles and equipment, including structural ARFF and ambulance apparatus.
• Conduct heavy‑equipment tasks such as installation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on trucks, cranes, forklifts, loaders, and more.
• Remove, inspect, and rebuild engines, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems using computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
• Repair air‑conditioning systems, calibrate load‑monitoring indicators, and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, and crane rigging.
• Document work orders, invoices, repair records, and activity reports while adhering to safety and hazardous‑waste procedures.
• Act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of the supervisor and perform recovery operations as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, military, or tactical environments.
• High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
• Prefer EVT Level 1 or equivalent fire‑apparatus, ambulance, or ARFF technician certification.

Required skills

• Diesel and heavy‑automotive engine repair.
• Hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical system diagnostics.
• Use of electronic test equipment and computer‑based diagnostics.
• Rebuilding hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, and suspensions.
• Seal, bearing, axle‑brake, and crane‑rigging replacement.
• Air‑conditioning system repair and load‑monitoring calibration.
• Reading schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
