Senior Climate Screening & E&S Safeguards Expert

About the role

NTU International is seeking a Senior Climate Screening / E&S Safeguards Expert to support the EU‑funded Technical Assistance to ECOWAS in Transport Governance. The expert will lead climate risk screening and environmental and social safeguard activities for regional transport infrastructure projects across West Africa, ensuring integration of climate resilience, sustainability and social inclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct climate screening and resilience assessments for transport corridors and infrastructure proposals.
• Provide technical advice on environmental and social safeguards in line with EU and international standards.
• Prepare, review and validate Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs), resettlement frameworks and stakeholder engagement plans.
• Integrate climate adaptation, gender equality, disability inclusion and other social safeguards into project preparation and implementation.
• Develop safeguard methodologies, procedures and guidance documents for ECOWAS institutions and national stakeholders.
• Deliver capacity‑building workshops, trainings and technical support on climate screening and E&S safeguards.
• Support monitoring, reporting and quality assurance of safeguard‑related deliverables.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental sciences, climate change, sustainability, natural resource management or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience or sustainable infrastructure development.
• Proven experience on transport or infrastructure projects in developing countries, preferably in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Experience with international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
