Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

SMEC, a member of the Surbana Jurong Group, is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical supervision on a large‑scale infrastructure programme that includes roads, tunnels and bridges. The role will support construction activities during the EOI stage and prepare for potential project award.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all geotechnical aspects of excavations and tunnelling works.
• Review and approve geotechnical designs, reports and contractor submissions.
• Monitor ground conditions and verify alignment with design assumptions.
• Support rock excavation and tunnel construction activities, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards and safety requirements.
• Coordinate geotechnical matters with the Team Leader and Senior Resident Engineer.
• Provide technical guidance on site and resolve geotechnical issues promptly.

Required profile

• Professional qualification as a Civil Engineer (Geotechnical) or Geologist.
• PE, CEng, EUR ING or equivalent certification preferred.
• Post‑graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or Geology is advantageous.
• Minimum 15 years of overall experience, with at least 8 years on infrastructure projects involving roads, tunnels and bridges.
• Strong background in rock excavation and drill‑and‑blast tunnelling techniques.
• Excellent analytical, technical and problem‑solving abilities.
