Airlift Joint Inspector / Air Cargo Lead

About the role

Amentum is looking for an Airlift Joint Inspector / Air Cargo Lead to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures that all cargo movements comply with DoD regulations and are executed safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Perform joint cargo inspections to verify compliance with DoD 4500.9R, Part III, Mobility, Appendix O.
• Validate that cargo is movement‑ready, confirming proper packaging, bracing, and restraint before aircraft loading.
• Inspect cargo for safety directives, weight distribution, and certification requirements.
• Complete inspections within six hours to meet mission‑critical timelines.
• Maintain detailed inspection records and prepare load plans with loadmasters and aircrews.
• Assist with loading and unloading using material handling equipment and ground support tools.
• Coordinate with deploying units, aircrews, and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies.
• Supervise and train air cargo team members on inspection and preparation processes.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in cargo operations, logistics, or inspections in a military, government, or industrial environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Formal training and qualification as a Joint Inspector.
• Strong knowledge of DoD cargo inspection regulations (DoD 4500.9R, Part III, Mobility, Appendix O).
• Leadership or supervisory experience.

Required skills

• Operation of Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
• Load planning and weight distribution for airlift operations.
• Application of DoD cargo inspection procedures.
