Assistant Chief Steward

About the role

The Assistant Chief Steward supports the Chief Steward in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene and safety across all kitchen and banquet areas at Raffles Seychelles. This position ensures proper handling of chemicals, storage of china, cutlery and equipment, and oversees stewarding personnel to deliver seamless guest experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate stewarding staff to ensure consistent cleanliness of kitchen, dishwashing, and banquet areas.
• Manage safe handling, storage and documentation of chemicals, china, cutlery, and kitchen utensils.
• Operate and monitor dishwashing equipment according to hotel specifications, ensuring polished silverware and spotless glassware.
• Set up and maintain banquet buffets, including polishing silverware and cleaning buffet glass tops.
• Implement and enforce safety and security procedures, reporting accidents and addressing unsafe conditions promptly.
• Maintain confidentiality of guest and proprietary information and adhere to all company policies.

Required profile

• Minimum of 3 years experience in the culinary field with at least 1 year in a similar stewarding supervisory role in an international‑class hotel.
• Physically fit with the ability to work long hours in a fast‑paced environment.
• Fluent oral and written English; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
• Customer‑oriented, motivated self‑starter who displays initiative, creativity and strong team‑building skills.
• Flexible and adaptable, able to work across different locations within the property.
• Apprenticeship or college‑level qualification in a relevant field.
