Driver / Operator – Firefighting Apparatus

About the role

Amentum is seeking a qualified Driver Operator to join the firefighting team supporting a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves operating fire apparatus, responding to emergencies, and ensuring equipment readiness in a challenging OCONUS environment.

Key responsibilities

• Safely drive firefighting apparatus to and from emergency scenes, complying with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Operate pumps, power units, and other mechanical equipment on the apparatus during fire suppression activities.
• Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies on the vehicle; perform post‑incident checks and weekly inspections.
• Clean, service, and report mechanical issues to maintain apparatus readiness.
• Complete required documentation and reporting as directed by program and site leadership.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of relevant experience, preferably at a US military installation (Air Force preferred).
• Experience working in an austere OCONUS environment with a multinational workforce.
• Ability to pass and maintain contract medical requirements throughout deployment.
• Valid country driver’s license, passport (minimum one‑year validity), and ability to obtain required visas and facility credentials.

Required skills

• ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting) certification.
• PumperFirefighter I and II qualifications.
• Airport Firefighter certification.
• HAZMAT Operations training.
• Telecommunicator I and II certification.
• Computer skills for documentation and reporting.
