About the role
The Elevator Mechanic will ensure the safe, reliable operation of embassy elevators through routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electrical components. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, the role supports continuous certification and licensing compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a safe workplace and adhere to all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
- Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, signal and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters and other diagnostic tools.
- Disassemble defective units and replace parts such as locks, gears, cables, safety devices, and lubricate bearings.
- Install, repair, and test transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, heating units, conduit systems, and related transmission equipment.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and wiring diagrams to locate and resolve equipment issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance according to published schedules and provide input for maintenance plan improvements.
- Conduct equipment testing with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or Journeyman’s Certificate strongly preferred.
- Experience reading engineering sketches, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ manuals.
- Familiarity with US (and European where applicable) Electrical Codes and standard trade practices.
- Knowledge of annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
Required skills
- Brake, motor, and switch system troubleshooting.
- Electrical testing tools: ammeters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, frequency counters.
- Repair of locks, gears, cables, safety devices, and bearing lubrication.
- Installation and maintenance of transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, heating units, and conduit systems.
- Blueprint and wiring diagram interpretation.
- Preventive maintenance planning and execution.
- Knowledge of US Electrical Codes.
- Experience with Otis GEN2 MRL elevators (highly desirable).
