Experienced Optical Technician / Dispensing Optician

About the role

An optical practice is looking for a highly skilled, experienced and reliable Optical Technician / Dispensing Optician with strong hands-on experience in lens cutting, edging, shaping, glazing, spectacle fitting and frame repairs. The post is practical and technical, requiring excellent workmanship, attention to detail and a thorough understanding of prescription lenses and spectacle frames.

Key responsibilities

• Lens cutting, edging and glazing: operate manual and/or automatic lens edging machines; cut, edge, shape and size lenses; perform lens tracing, blocking, centering and glazing; fit lenses into full-rim, semi-rimless and rimless frames; handle CR-39, polycarbonate and high-index lenses, including single-vision, bifocal and progressive lenses.
• Spectacle repairs and adjustments: repair and adjust frames, replace screws, nose pads and temples, remove and replace lenses safely, and adjust frames for fit and comfort.
• Dispensing and quality control: read and interpret prescriptions, measure PD and fitting height, use a lensmeter/focimeter to check power, axis and centration, inspect finished spectacles and advise customers on lenses, coatings and frames.
• Workshop and customer service: maintain tools and equipment, keep the workshop clean and organised, complete jobs on time, and provide fittings, adjustments and after-sales support.

Required profile

• Previous practical experience as an Optical Technician, Optical Lab Technician or Dispensing Optician.
• Proven ability to operate manual and/or automatic lens edging machines.
• Strong hands-on skills in lens cutting, shaping, edging and glazing, and experience fitting lenses into different frame types.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, with good attention to detail and technical problem-solving.
• Reliable, hardworking and professional attitude; formal optical qualifications are an advantage.
