Hazardous Cargo Inspector / Certifier

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Hazardous Cargo Inspector / Certifier to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves managing, handling, certifying, and overseeing hazardous material and waste operations in compliance with strict military and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise hazardous waste management operations, ensuring compliance with Diego Garcia Final Governing Standards and the contractor’s implementation plan.
• Conduct initial and annual refresher training for hazardous material handlers, waste disposal technicians, shippers, and transporters.
• Manage collection, packaging, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials and excess waste, maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.
• Operate and oversee the Hazardous Waste Storage Area, Satellite Hazardous Waste Accumulation Points, and Hazardous Material Minimization Reissue Center.
• Certify outgoing hazardous cargo shipments according to federal and military transportation regulations.
• Prepare and maintain accurate hazardous cargo documentation, including identification, packaging, and labeling.
• Perform inspections, audits, and quality control checks of hazardous material and waste operations.
• Investigate incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Stay current with hazardous waste and material training, including recertifications through Naval School of Physical Distribution Management and School of Military Packaging Technology.

Required profile

• Experience in hazardous material and waste management, preferably in a military or government environment.
• Ability to conduct training and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Strong knowledge of federal and military hazardous cargo transportation regulations.
• Proficiency in preparing and maintaining detailed documentation for hazardous shipments.
• Commitment to occupational safety, proper use of PPE, and zero‑injury workplace practices.
