Trainee Lab Manager – Soillab

About the role

The Soillab Trainee Lab Manager will support laboratory operations on site, ensuring that all testing and quality control activities follow the Soillab Quality Manual. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience in managing lab personnel, data recording, and reporting within a construction environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the laboratory in accordance with the Soillab Quality Manual.
• Perform process and quality control testing of contractor‑submitted works.
• Ensure timely and accurate test results and submit summaries to the Materials Technician.
• Oversee laboratory staff, control overtime, and obtain approvals before forwarding reports.
• Maintain daily laboratory diaries, weather records, and weekly summaries for the Engineering Review (ER) team.
• Submit duplicate samples for verification with Soillab and SANRAL.
• Prepare and submit test summaries according to the quality manual schedule.
• Maintain hard and soft copies of all records, perform weekly electronic backups, and provide CD copies on a monthly/quarterly basis.
• Control site testing vehicles and submit monthly log sheets.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or trainee with interest in laboratory management and construction testing.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented procedures.
• Good organizational skills for record‑keeping and reporting.
