Tug Master – Maritime Vessel Operations

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Tug Master to operate tug vessels in support of large merchant and naval ship movements around Diego Garcia. The role involves ensuring safe navigation, coordinating with port authorities, and leading a crew to execute docking and undocking operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee safe navigation and operation of assigned tug vessel.
• Manage all tug operations in compliance with international and local maritime regulations.
• Supervise crew members and ensure proper execution of daily functions onboard.
• Maneuver and assist large commercial and naval vessels during docking, undocking, and transit.
• Communicate effectively with port authorities, vessel captains, and other personnel.
• Submit qualifications to the Contracting Officer Representative for approval prior to employment.
• Collaborate with designated alternates to maintain continuity of operations and vessel safety.
• Promote a culture of safety, security, and operational excellence.

Required profile

• Certification by the appropriate regulatory body for the vessel flag (e.g., USCG for US‑flagged vessels) covering the Diego Garcia waterway.
• Proper endorsements for handling large merchant and naval vessels.
• Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
• 3‑5 years of experience operating tug vessels in maritime environments.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain them throughout deployment.

Required skills

• US Coast Guard certification or equivalent flag‑state certification.
• Proficiency in tug vessel operation.
• Maritime navigation expertise.
