3rd Engineer - Luxury Cruise Ship

About the role

Aqua Expeditions is hiring a 3rd Engineer for its new operation Aqua Lares. The 3rd Engineer reports to the 1st Engineer and Chief Engineer and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the engine room during assigned watches and the hands-on maintenance of machinery. The role focuses on executing the planned maintenance system and keeping all mechanical and electrical systems within safety parameters.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and repair auxiliary engines, pumps, purifiers and sewage treatment plants
• Keep a safe and vigilant engine room watch, responding immediately to alarms and technical irregularities
• Monitor fuel, lube oil and water levels, ensuring accurate soundings and efficient consumption
• Assist in maintaining engine room logs, maintenance records and inventory updates in the management system
• Ensure safety equipment, emergency shut-offs and fire-fighting systems are fully operational
• Keep an organized inventory of spare parts and tools
• Follow MARPOL regulations and company environmental policies during operations and bunkering

Required profile

• STCW III/1 (Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch) or higher
• Valid Seafarer's Medical Certificate (ENG1 or equivalent)
• STCW Basic Safety Training (Seaman's Book/Matricula)
• 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar position (Junior Engineer or 4th/3rd Engineer)
• English proficiency, written and verbal
• Proactive, hands-on approach to troubleshooting and repairs, strong organization and commitment to engine room cleanliness and safety

Required skills

• Solid technical knowledge of marine diesel engines and auxiliary systems
• Additional certifications such as Engine Room Resource Management (ERM) or advanced electrical training are highly valued
