Deckhand – Luxury Expedition Vessel

About the role

The Deckhand is an essential member of the deck department, responsible for the general maintenance, cleanliness, and operation of the vessel's exterior and key equipment. Reporting to the Bosun and/or First Officer, the role demands the highest standards of safety, presentation, and professionalism at all times.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily wash‑downs, chamois drying, polishing, varnishing, painting and brightwork on the superstructure, hull, stainless steel and teak surfaces.
• Manage waste and garbage disposal in compliance with MARPOL and company environmental standards.
• Stand watch while the vessel is at anchor or underway, act as lookout and steering assistant, and participate in all safety drills.
• Assist with mooring, anchoring, line handling, fender deployment, splicing and operate tenders and water‑sports equipment.
• Provide discreet guest support such as setting up water‑sports activities and handling luggage, maintaining a professional appearance at all times.

Required profile

• Valid STCW Basic Safety Training certification and ENG1 (or equivalent) Seafarer Medical Certificate.
• Minimum 5 years experience as a Deckhand, preferably on vessels over 70 m.
• Fluent English, excellent physical fitness and ability to work in varied weather conditions.

Required skills

• Line handling, knot tying and watchkeeping.
• Exterior maintenance: washing, waxing, polishing, stainless‑steel polishing, brightwork, painting and varnishing.
• Care and maintenance of teak decking and water‑sports equipment.
• Powerboat Level 2 (or equivalent) certification is highly desirable.
