Umpire – Recreational Sports Official

About the role

We are looking for an experienced umpire to join Amentum’s support team for a US Navy recreational sports program on Diego Garcia. The successful candidate will officiate softball, baseball and similar league games, ensuring fair play and safety for all participants.

Key responsibilities

• Officiate recreational softball, baseball and related games in accordance with established rules and regulations.
• Make accurate, timely calls on plays, pitches and player actions while maintaining control of the field.
• Inspect fields, equipment and player gear before each game to ensure safety and compliance.
• Maintain game records, scorecards and incident reports as required.
• Communicate with players, coaches and program staff to resolve disputes or clarify rules.
• Assist with scheduling, field setup and coordination of league activities.
• Promote sportsmanship, safety and positive participation throughout all events.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of experience officiating softball, baseball or similar sports.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining beyond the hire date and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain necessary facility credentials.
• Willingness to work in an austere OCONUS environment and obtain country‑specific visas.

Required skills

• Certification or formal training as an umpire or sports official (preferred).
• Strong knowledge of game rules, officiating mechanics and conflict‑resolution techniques.
• Excellent organizational and time‑management abilities.
