About the role
Amentum is seeking an ABS‑certified welder to join its MSC Riding Gang on the U.S. Navy’s Diego Garcia program. You will perform shipboard welding, cutting and fabrication to keep MSC vessels operational and compliant with Navy standards.
Key responsibilities
- Execute ABS‑certified welding on structural components, piping, foundations, brackets, bulkheads and other shipboard assemblies.
- Perform repairs using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and oxy‑fuel cutting equipment in accordance with ABS, Navy and MSC specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, weld symbols and technical drawings to complete tasks accurately.
- Prepare work areas by removing coatings, corrosion and debris; set up equipment and maintain fire‑watch and ventilation procedures.
- Document material usage, maintain logs and ensure accountability of tools, PPE and consumables.
- Support Riding Gang teams with preservation, mechanical and general maintenance duties as needed.
Required profile
- 1‑3 years of shipboard or industrial welding experience.
- Current or previously held ABS welding certification for structural or pipe welding.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional welding or marine maintenance training preferred.
- Valid passport (minimum one year beyond hire date) and ability to travel internationally.
- Ability to meet contract medical requirements and obtain necessary facility credentials.
