Elevator Mechanic – Maintenance & Repair

About the role

The Elevator Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical systems of embassy elevators to ensure safe, continuous operation and compliance with certification requirements. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, you will work on a variety of tasks ranging from troubleshooting to preventative maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and resolve faults in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using test equipment.
• Disassemble defective units, replace or repair parts such as locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
• Lubricate bearings and other components to reduce friction.
• Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams to locate equipment issues.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and suggest improvements to maintenance plans.
• Conduct load testing and other diagnostic procedures using voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
• Maintain safety standards and comply with Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or Journeyman’s Certificate strongly preferred.
• Experience reading engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ manuals.
• Familiarity with US and/or European Electrical Codes and standard trade practices.
• Knowledge of annual maintenance requirements for electrical and mechanical elevator systems.
