Elevator Mechanic – Maintenance & Repair

About the role

The Elevator Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the safe operation of embassy elevator systems. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, the role focuses on compliance with certification, licensing, and safety standards while supporting continuous elevator availability.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and prioritize safety in all activities.
• Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, and voltmeters.
• Disassemble defective units, replace or repair parts such as locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
• Lubricate bearings and other components to reduce friction.
• Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
• Interpret blueprints, drawings, and layouts to locate equipment issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance according to published schedules and provide input for task upgrades.
• Conduct equipment tests with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
• Complete additional duties and projects as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or Journeyman’s Certificate strongly preferred.
• Experience reading engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ manuals.
• Familiarity with US and European electrical codes and trade practices.
• Knowledge of annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.

Required skills

• Electrical code compliance (US/EU).
• Interpretation of engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Use of test equipment: voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, continuity tester, feeler gauge, frequency counter.
• Elevator maintenance and repair techniques.
• Experience with Otis GEN2 MRL elevator systems.
• Experience working with Amentum.
