Statistician

About the role

The National Bureau of Statistics Seychelles is seeking a full‑time Statistician to join its team in Victoria. The role involves collecting, validating and processing data from national surveys and administrative sources, and turning this data into reliable official statistics that support policy making.

Key responsibilities

• Design data collection instruments and apply appropriate statistical methodologies.
• Develop and validate statistical models for official indicators.
• Analyse datasets, prepare statistical tables and produce clear reports, briefs and visualisations.
• Collaborate with colleagues across departments to support national statistical programmes.
• Contribute to methodological improvements and maintain data‑quality standards.
• Provide technical input to policy discussions and respond to data requests.
• Support capacity‑building activities within the National Statistical System.

Required profile

• Strong foundation in statistics and mathematics with the ability to apply statistical theory to real‑world data.
• Analytical thinking, problem‑solving and attention to detail.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in statistics, mathematics, economics, data science or a related quantitative field.
• Ability to communicate statistical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences.
• Commitment to data quality, professional and ethical standards.
• Capacity to work collaboratively in a public‑sector environment and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Required skills

• Statistical programming in R, Stata, SPSS, SAS or Python.
• Statistical modelling, validation and interpretation.
• Data management and automation of statistical processes.
