Assistant Chief Engineer – Hotel Operations

About the role

The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in managing the Engineering Department of a luxury resort. This role ensures all technical systems operate smoothly, maintains high standards of guest comfort, and contributes to the resort’s sustainability initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Engineer in daily management and operation of all engineering systems, plant, machinery, and facilities.
• Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programmes and coordinate corrective maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Supervise, train and allocate tasks to engineering staff, promoting safety and teamwork.
• Monitor energy and utility consumption, identifying efficiency improvements.
• Ensure compliance with Seychelles health, safety, fire and life‑safety legislation and hotel policies.
• Manage external contractors, service providers and oversee project and renovation works.
• Maintain accurate engineering records, maintenance logs and equipment histories.
• Respond promptly to guest engineering requests and collaborate with other departments to resolve technical issues.

Required profile

• Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services or related field.
• 3–5 years of engineering experience in a hotel or resort, preferably in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of hotel engineering systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, generators, pumps, water treatment, fire & life‑safety).
• Experience with preventive maintenance programmes and maintenance management systems.
• Good understanding of health, safety and fire‑safety regulations.
• Proven ability to supervise and develop a technical team.
• Excellent English communication; French or Creole is a plus.
