Emergency Vehicle Technician

About the role

The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire department vehicles and heavy equipment, including fire trucks, ARFF apparatus, ambulances, and related hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The role ensures that all emergency vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for rapid deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on fire trucks, ARFF units, ambulances, and other heavy equipment.
• Remove, inspect, and rebuild engines, hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, and related components.
• Calibrate load‑monitoring indicators, air‑conditioning systems, and other safety‑critical equipment.
• Document work orders, invoices, and equipment repair records accurately.
• Adhere to safety policies, including hazardous waste handling and OSHA standards.
• Act as the point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of a supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, military, or civilian settings.
• High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
• Prefer EVT Level 1 or related fire‑apparatus certification.

Required skills

• Diesel engine repair and overhaul.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic system diagnostics and repair.
• Electrical troubleshooting using computerized test equipment.
• Heavy equipment maintenance (cranes, loaders, dozers, etc.).
• Calibration of load‑monitoring and air‑conditioning systems.
• Reading schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, ASME, OEM, and military equipment standards.
