Motorman / Fitter / Basic Electrician – Engine Room Technician

About the role

The Motorman/Fitter/Basic Electrician is a versatile technical professional who supports the engine room team in maintaining mechanical and electrical systems on board. Reporting to the 1st and Chief Engineer, this role ensures the vessel’s propulsion, power generation, and guest‑facing electrical fixtures operate safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Assist engineers with maintenance of main engines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
• Perform welding and fitting tasks to repair piping, brackets, and mechanical components.
• Carry out basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs on lighting, motors, and galley/laundry equipment.
• Maintain engine room cleanliness, including painting, degreasing, and bilge management.
• Participate in fuel, lube oil, and water transfers following environmental protocols.
• Support duty engineer during watch rounds, identifying leaks, noises, or vibrations.
• Manage workshop tools and organize spare parts inventory.

Required profile

• STCW III/4 (Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch) or III/5 (Able Seafarer Engine) certification.
• Valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate and STCW Basic Safety Training.
• 2–3 years of experience in welding, fitting, and basic marine electrics on commercial vessels or luxury yachts.
• Proficiency in English to follow technical instructions and safety protocols.
• Strong commitment to MARPOL regulations and onboard safety culture.
