Mechanical Engineer – Island Maintenance

About the role

North Island is seeking a full‑time Mechanical Engineer to ensure the seamless operation of all mechanical systems on the private island resort. You will work on‑site, supporting guest experiences and staff facilities by maintaining a wide range of equipment in a remote, high‑end hospitality environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on generators, HVAC units, pumps, compressors, and rotating equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on vehicles, buggies, boats, and marine engines.
• Coordinate repairs with external vendors while minimizing downtime.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Collaborate with operations, facilities, and conservation teams to improve energy efficiency and resource use.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field, with relevant trade certifications.
• Experience working in remote, resort or island settings is highly valued.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and a focus on safety and reliability.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to interact with hospitality and conservation staff.
